USE

7. PRESENT SIMPLE NOT USED TO
We do not use "used to" to talk about regular actions in the present.  There is no present form "use to". We use Present Simple instead.

play chess every day. (NOT: I use to play chess every day.)

8. PRESENT SIMPLE NOT PRESENT CONTINUOUS together with USED TO
We use "used to" to show what was true in the past (and isn't true any more). And we use Present Simple (not Present Continuous!) to show what is true now.

Richard used to be very lazy but he works very hard these days.
(NOT: Richard used to be very lazy but he is working very hard these days.)

Avoid the mistake!
When you see such key words as "now" or "these days" you may want to use Present Continuous as these are the key words of this tense. But remember, when we compare the past and the present, we usually use Present Simple, not Present Continuous. We do not pay attention to the Present Continuous key words (now, these days, etc.) in this case.
